JJ Yeley Battles for 24th Place Finish in Phoenix
AVONDALE, AZ. (March 16, 2015) - JJ Yeley and his JGL Racing team battled handling issues on their No. 28 Texas 28 Spirits Stage Toyota as they finished 24th in the running of the 11th Annual Axalta Faster. Tougher. Brighter. 200 at the Phoenix International Raceway. Racing in his hometown of Phoenix, Yeley and his second year NASCAR XFINITY Series team had much higher hopes for the second of three races on the West Coast swing.
"This is definitely not the finish this JGL Racing team or myself were looking for," stated Yeley. "We struggled with the handling on our No 28 Toyota today. We just couldn't get the car to rotate well enough through the center of the corners like we needed. Phoenix is a challenging track to get a handle on your set-up and we just struggled with that this week. Steve Plattenberger (crew chief) and this team have done an awesome job in the early part of the season and I know we will rebound as we head to California next week - another important race as it is the home track for our team owner."
Yeley would start the 200-lap event from the 24th position and quickly discovered his No. 28 Toyota needed more grip and help rotating through the center of the corner. The team would make several adjustments during their pit stops in the event but to no avail as it didn't help their handling issues. The veteran racer just settled in and battled to safely bring his Toyota home with the best possible finish.
The 24th place finish left Yeley in the 15th position in the NASCAR XFINITY Series driver's point's standings - 13 points out of the top-10.
"We really wanted to get a better finish for JJ at his home track this week," stated team owner James Whitener. "While we are disappointed in this finish, this JGL Racing team has proved to be persistent and we will bounce back next week in California."
Yeley and the JGL Racing team will stay out West for one more week as the NASCAR XFINITY Series visits Auto Club Speedway. The running of the Drive4Clots.com 300 will be Saturday March 21, 2015 at the track located in Fontana, California. The race can be seen LIVE on Fox Sports 1 at 3:30 p.m. ET and heard on Motor Racing Network (MRN) and Sirius Channel 90.
