JJ Yeley Grabs Top-20 Finish in Texas
FORT WORTH, TEXAS (April 12, 2015) - While it was not exactly the kind of finish JJ Yeley and his JGL Racing team were hoping for, the veteran racer battled all night to bring his No. 28 Texas 28 Spirits Stage Toyota home to a 19th-place finish in the running of the 19th Annual O'Reilly Auto Parts 300 on Friday night at Texas Motor Speedway.
"The race just didn't work out the way we had hoped," said Yeley. "I think we hurt ourselves a little there by not pitting to take tires there on the second to last caution. We didn't have many laps on our tires at the time but the way it all played out that might have helped us. We tried some new things this week on our speedway package and I think it helped us for sure. Our No. 28 Toyota was pretty nice there at the end of the race but we still have been battling an issue with being a little snug in the center of the corners. Steve Plattenberger and all of the guys on this JGL Racing team are working hard to improve our program and we are chipping away at it - and all of us appreciate all of their hard work."
While the No. 28 team was sidelined a little in the first practice on Thursday and lost some track time with a parts failure - they showed their resolve in the final practice as Yeley would post the 10th quickest time. With high expectations, JJ would qualify in the 20th position for the 200-lap event under the lights on Friday night. When the green flag flew Yeley quickly moved his way inside the Top-15 where he would ride for the majority of the race. The JGL Racing team provided clean and efficient pit stops along with adjustments which allowed Yeley to bring home his No. 28 Toyota safely for his third Top-20 finish of the 2015 NASCAR XFINITY Series season.
The 19th place finish allowed Yeley to maintain his 14th place spot in the overall NASCAR XFINITY Series drivers' standings - 23 points out of the Top-10.
Up next for JJ and his JGL Racing team is a visit to "The World Fastest Half-Mile". The running of the Drive to Stop Diabetes 300 will be Saturday April 18th at Bristol Motor Speedway and can be seen LIVE on Fox Sports 1 at 1:30 pm ET. It can also be heard on Performance Racing Network (PRM) and Sirius Channel 90.
