JJ Yeley Earns JGL Racing Best Finish with Fourth Place at Talladega
TALLADEGA, AL (May 4, 2015) - JJ Yeley delivered his second year JGL Racing team their best ever NASCAR XFINITY Series finish with a gutsy performance at Talladega Superspeedway. Yeley steered his No. 28 Texas 28 Spirits Stage Toyota to a popular fourth place finish in the running of the Winn-Dixie 300 at the Alabama superspeedway.
"WOW, that was very intense out there at the end of the race and this is awesome to come home with a fourth place finish," said Yeley. "Everyone on this JGL Racing team did a great job all weekend and this is a great team effort. We were not really able to run on the bottom of the track as our car just stalled out in a big way. That last part of the race I focused on trying to keep myself in the middle or high line which really helped our car. Luckily I lined up on the outside on the last few restarts so I was able to keep our No. 28 Toyota in some good positions late in the race."
The No. 28 team would start the 300-mile event from the 27th position after the new qualifying format used at Talladega. By the time the first caution came out on lap two Yeley had directed his fast No. 28 Toyota inside the top-10. In typical superspeedway fashion, JJ would fluctuate throughout the field while maneuvering through the draft. Once he began to focus on keeping his Toyota machine in the high line he rocketed to the front of the field and took the lead with just under 20 laps remaining. The wild remaining laps produced some exciting racing and featured Yeley finishing strong in the fourth position.
"Everyone on this JGL Racing team has worked hard and it feels good to get a finish like this," added Yeley. "Our team ownership has put a tremendous amount of resources into this program and they deserve to have finishes like this on a regular basis. Hopefully we can use this race for some solid momentum as we continue throughout the season."
The fourth place finish moved Yeley up one spot to 13th in the overall NASCAR XFINITY Series drivers' standings - 35 points out of the Top-10.
The NASCAR XFINITY Series takes a week off before heading to Iowa Speedway for the running of the Iowa 250 on Sunday May 17th.
