JJ Yeley's Strong Run Derailed in Iowa
NEWTON, IA (May 18, 2015) - For the second time in the early NASCAR XFINITY Series season, JJ Yeley saw a solid short track run cut short resulting in a disappointing finish. Yeley and his No. 28 Toyota were a victim of "road rage" from another competitor on Sunday resulting in a destroyed race car and a disappointing 34th place finish in the running of the 3M 250 at Iowa Speedway.
"That was very disappointing to be a lead lap car and having a pretty good run and intentionally being wrecked like that," said Yeley. "I unintentionally got into the 42 car there early in the race after I got loose coming off the corner and I tried to tuck in behind him. He got his car fixed and it was very evident that he came back out onto the track to intentionally wreck me."
The No. 28 team would start the 250 lap event from the 26th position after their qualifying effort. Once the green flag flew, Yeley would methodically work his way through the field and after a few adjustments by the JGL Racing crew the NASCAR veteran racer had moved inside the top-15. However, the day would end prematurely for Yeley and team on lap 151 after contact sent the No. 28 Toyota hard into the outside wall.
"I am not going to intentionally wreck someone 15 laps into a race," added Yeley. "But instead of talking about this in person after the race he came back out and intentionally destroyed our race car. We are a growing race program and cannot afford to have cars destroyed like that for no reason."
Despite the 34th place finish, Yeley remains 13th in the overall NASCAR XFINITY Series drivers' standings - 57 points out of the Top-10.
Up next for JJ and his JGL Racing team is a visit to Charlotte Motor Speedway. The running of the Hisense 300 will be this Saturday May 23rd and can be seen LIVE on Fox at 2:00 pm ET. It can also be heard on Performance Racing Network (PRN) and Sirius Channel 90.
