J.J. Yeley Collects Another Top-20 Finish at Chicagoland
JOLIET, IL (June 22, 2015) - J.J. Yeley and his JGL Racing team survived Mother Nature and tough NASCAR XFINITY Series competition to post a solid performance at Chicagoland Speedway. The NASCAR veteran racer brought his No. 28 Toyota home to a solid 16th-place finish in the rain-delayed running of the Owens Corning AttiCat 300 at the Joliet, IL track.
"Everyone on this JGL Racing team did a good job and I appreciate all of their efforts," said Yeley. "We continue to get better and this week it showed with our performance in the two practice sessions. We started off the race just a little on the free side but Steven Lane (crew chief) made some nice changes and our No. 28 Toyota was at its best late in the race."
After rain delayed the Saturday night scheduled race to Sunday, the No. 28 team would start the 300-mile event from the 19th position. A scheduled competition caution on lap 25 allowed the JGL Racing team to make some adjustments to correct the slightly loose condition on their No. 28 Toyota. Unfortunately a failure with the jack on pit road resulted in a stop and go penalty relegating Yeley to the rear of the field. He would methodically work his way back up through the field and inside the top-20 by the halfway point of the race. Despite yet a second pit road penalty that affected half the field in the late stages of the race, Yeley would once again charge forward and capture his seventh top-20 finish of the season.
"We had a few issues on pit road today with the jack and then the confusion by everyone with the pit road light and flag," added Yeley. "But we rebounded nicely both times and earned a solid finish. We are slowly getting better and better each week and I look forward to us continuing with the progress for the remainder of the season."
With the 16th-place finish Yeley moved up one spot to 13th in the overall NASCAR XFINITY Series drivers' standings - 87 points out of the Top-10.
Yeley and his JGL Racing team will next set their sights on Daytona International Speedway in two weeks. The running of the Subway Firecracker 250 will be Saturday July 4th and can be seen LIVE on NBC Sports Network at 7:30 pm ET. It can also be heard on Motor Racing Network (MRN) and Sirius Channel 90.
