Yeley Charges to 12th Place Finish at The Glen
WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (August 9, 2015) - Once again NASCAR veteran J.J. Yeley and his JGL Racing team showed great effort and continued progress as they came home with yet another top-20 finish on Saturday at The Glen. In very impressive fashion, Yeley would bring home his No. 28 JGL Racing Toyota without a scratch on it to a 12th-place finish in the running of the Zippo 200 at Watkins Glen International.
"That was a lot of fun out there today," said Yeley. "We got stuck behind the 18 car there on that last restart as he was having transmission issues and it cost us a few spots - otherwise I think we would have had a top-10 finish. We just minded our own business out there today and raced the track. Our No. 28 Toyota was fairly balanced and we were able to stay away from any big trouble that is easy to find on these road course events. We had a few close calls out there today but we were able to overcome them and record a pretty solid finish."
After posting top-20 speeds in the two Friday practice sessions, Yeley would qualify his No. 28 JGL Racing Toyota in the 17th position for the 82-lap event on Saturday. With the drop of the green flag, J.J. would methodically begin his march towards the top-10. In typical road course fashion, varying race strategies occurred in the early stages of the 200-mile event.
Right before the halfway mark of the Zippo 200, Yeley would be forced off the course by a fellow competitor. The result was the No.28 Toyota front end covered in grass and Yeley forced to come down pit road under green flag conditions to the attention of his JGL Racing crew. A timely caution a few laps later would put J.J. back into the lead pack where he would precisely maneuver his way to a safe and solid finish when the checkered flag flew.
"I am proud to say that I brought home our No. 28 Toyota today without a scratch on it," added Yeley. "We continue our growth and improvement here at JGL Racing as we get closer to where we think we should be running on a consistent basis. We have another fun road course event next week at Mid-Ohio and we look to replicate our performance from today."
With the 12th-place finish Yeley remained in the 13th position in the overall NASCAR XFINITY Series drivers' standings - a mere three points out of the 12th spot and only 82 points away from the top-10.
Yeley and his JGL Racing team will set their sights next on the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. The running of the Mid-Ohio 200 will be Saturday August 15th and can be seen LIVE on NBC Sports Network at 3:00 pm ET. It can also be heard on Motor Racing Network (MRN) and Sirius Channel 90.
