Yeley Plagued by Loose Wheel at Bristol
BRISTOL, TN. (August 23, 2015) - A roller coaster day for J.J. Yeley and his JGL Racing team at Bristol Motor Speedway was punctuated with a loose wheel late in the 300-lap event which relegated the NASCAR veteran to a disappointing finish. At the end of the night, Yeley would bring his No. 28 Toyota home to a 19th-place finish in the running of the Food City 300 at the "World's Fastest Half Mile".
"That wasn't what any of us on this JGL Racing team were looking for out there tonight," said Yeley. "We came here with a new package and we worked real hard in getting our car dialed in. We made a lot of good progress throughout the day and unfortunately we had a loose wheel after a pit stop late in the race. I rode it out as long as I could and was about to head to pit road before disaster struck."
After posting solid lap times in the two Friday practice sessions, Yeley would qualify his No. 28 JGL Racing Toyota in the 18th position for the 300-lap event under the lights. The early stages of the short track battle saw J.J. report his No. 28 Toyota just being a little loose throughout the corner. The JGL Racing team would utilize multiple pit stops to make necessary adjustments on their No. 28 Toyota.
With the adjustments seeming to have helped, Yeley and the team climbed inside the top-15 with just over 100 laps remaining. A pit stop on lap 193 allowed for final adjustments on the No. 28 Toyota and a charge to the finish. Unfortunately the pit stop proved disastrous as a loose right front wheel plagued Yeley once back under green flag conditions. The veteran racer did all he could before disaster struck on lap 212 as contact from another competitor sent him into the outside wall just as he was preparing to come to pit road. The JGL Racing crew worked hard to repair damage only losing one lap with the incident. In the end, J.J. would hang on to bring his battered No. 28 Toyota home with his ninth consecutive top-20 finish in NASCAR XFINITY Series competition.
"While this wasn't the result we were looking for we made some good strides with our new package," added Yeley. "I can't say enough about the guys on this team and all of the hard work they put into this No. 28 Toyota. In the end, we got bit by a mistake on pit road tonight."
With the 19th-place finish Yeley remained in the 12th position in the overall NASCAR XFINITY Series drivers' standings - just 70 points away from the top-10.
Yeley and his JGL Racing team will set their sights next on Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. The running of the Road America 180 will be Saturday August 29th and can be seen LIVE on NBC Sports Network at 3:00 pm ET. It can also be heard on Motor Racing Network (MRN) and Sirius Channel 90.
