Yeley Survives to Capture Top-20 Finish at Richmond
RICHMOND, VA. (September 13, 2015) - In what turned out to be one of the most challenging races of the 2015 NASCAR XFINITY Series for J.J.Yeley, the veteran NASCAR driver and his JGL Racing team survived to post their 18th top-20 finish of the season. While fighting gremlins in his No. 28 Toyota all day, Yeley would finish in the 20th position in the running of the Virginia 529 College Savings 250 at Richmond International Raceway.
"That was a rough one out there tonight for sure," said Yeley. "For some reason our No. 28 Toyota was just evil and no matter what changes we made it didn't help. We tried some early strategy and that helped us move from the back to inside the top-15. But as the race progressed there wasn't much more we could do but ride it out and salvage the best finish we could."
Yeley and his No. 28 Toyota had a rough start to the day when the JGL Racing driver brushed the wall coming off turn four early in the qualifying session as he battled those handling gremlins. With qualifying completed, the JGL Racing team was forced to take their No. 28 Toyota to the garage for NASCAR approved repairs and thus starting the 250-lap event from the tail end of the field. Yeley would use the first few laps to feel out his repaired car and carefully moving up through the 40 car field.
With an early caution, crew chief Steven Lane made the call to bring Yeley down pit road out of sequence for adjustments and fresh tires. The move allowed Yeley to take advantage of those tires and gain valuable track position. The rest of the race would be used to maintain that track position despite the struggles with the handling on the No. 28 Toyota. The persistence of driver and his team allowed them to come home safely with a very hard fought 20th-place finish.
"Unfortunately sometimes weeks like this happen to you in this sport," added Yeley. "While it was a very frustrating night out there - I am so proud of the hard work and never give up approach of this JGL Racing team. We will head to Chicago next week and look to put this one behind us."
With the 20th-place finish Yeley remains 12th in the overall NASCAR XFINITY Series drivers' standings - 86 points out of the Top-10.
Yeley and his JGL Racing team will next set their sights onto Chicagoland Speedway this coming weekend. The running of the Furious 7 300 will be Saturday September 19th and can be seen LIVE on NBC Sports Network at 6:00 pm ET. It can also be heard on Motor Racing Network (MRN) and Sirius Channel 90.
