Yeley Delivers 12th Place Finish at Dover
DOVER, DE. (October 4, 2015) - In what was a challenging few days at Dover International Speedway due to weather playing havoc with on track activities, J.J. Yeley and his JGL Racing team persevered to post a solid finish on Saturday in the NASCAR XFINITY Series event. With the rain finally moving out of the area, Yeley would pilot his No. 28 Delaware Office of Highway Safety Toyota to a 12th-place finish in the running of the Hisense 200 at the track known as the "Monster Mile".
"That was a great effort by all of us at JGL Racing today," said Yeley. "Everyone got hurt by missing practice and not having any track time at all until the start of the race. But Steven Lane (crew chief) and the guys on this team made some great early adjustments to our No. 28 Toyota. We used some pit strategy to gain some track position and ran up front for a good portion of the first half of the race. We had troubles with fueling on a mid-race pit stop which lost most of our track position gained but our car was good enough there in the late stages of the race to get most of that back and come home with a solid finish."
Yeley would start the 200-lap event from the 19th position as a result of qualifying being cancelled due to rain and the field set by owners' points. The early laps would find the No. 28 Toyota just a little free in the center of the corners. An early caution presented a chance to use some strategy and come down pit road for adjustments. With the car much better, J.J. would choose to stay out during a competition caution occurring around lap 25 to become the race leader when the field pitted.
Yeley would maintain his track position inside the top-10 through a long green flag run before a pit stop under caution saw the JGL Racing pit crew have some trouble fueling the No. 28 Toyota resulting in the loss of valuable track position. The second half of the race would see Yeley methodically gain back spots on the track as well as on pit road. A brief red flag due to rain showers pushed the end of the race towards darkness but in the end Yeley would continue his charge forward and take the checkered flag in the 12th spot.
"The loss of practice time presented everyone with a challenge this weekend but the guys on this JGL Racing team work so hard in preparing and that showed for us today," added Yeley. "It was great for all of us to represent the Delaware Office of Highway Safety and we appreciate their support - I think we put on a good show for them today."
With the 12th-place finish Yeley remained 12th in the overall NASCAR XFINITY Series drivers' standings - just five points out of 11th and 81 points out of the Top-10.
Yeley and his JGL Racing team will next set their sights onto Charlotte Motor Speedway this coming weekend. The running of the Drive for the Cure 300 will be Friday October 9th and can be seen LIVE on NBC Sports Network at 8:00 pm ET. It can also be heard on Performance Racing Network (PRN) and Sirius Channel 90.
