Matt Tifft Survives for Solid Finish at Daytona
DAYTONA BEACH, FL (February 22, 2016) - Matt Tifft and the JGL Racing team entered the NASCAR XFINITY Series race together at Daytona International Speedway with great optimism. The 19-year old Ohio native would gain valuable superspeedway experience on his way to a solid 21st-place finish in his No. 24 ClinicalRM Toyota in the running of the Powershares QQQ 300 at the 2.5-mile superspeedway.
"I definitely learned a lot today racing in the pack," said Tifft. "I got stuck and lost the draft there a bit after a green flag stop and we were just never able to recover from that. Overall this was a great experience for me as I continue my learning experiences in NASCAR. I want to thank everyone at JGL Racing for all of the hard work and I greatly appreciate the opportunity they gave me."
Tifft would start the 120-lap event from the 20th position as a result of his qualifying effort earlier in the day. Once the green flag flew, the No. 24 Toyota would quickly move inside the top-10. A long green flag run in the middle portion of the event would string out the field and a cycle of green flag pit stops proved harmful for Tifft as he would lose the lead draft which ultimately cost him a lap. The young racer would utilize the remaining laps as a further learning experience and brought his No. 24 Toyota home safely to the 21st-place finish.
Corey Lajoie will make his 2016 debut this week as he climbs behind of the wheel of the No. 24 JGL Racing Young Guns Toyota at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
The second race of the season at Atlanta Motor Speedway will be Saturday February 27th and can be seen LIVE on FOX Sports1 at 1:30 pm ET. It can also be heard on Performance Racing Network (PRN) and Sirius Channel 90.
