Young Gun LaJoie Finishes 23rd in Atlanta
HAMPTON, GA (February 28, 2016) - It had been over a year since Corey LaJoie had been behind the wheel of a NASCAR XFINITY Series ride and he entered Saturday's event with much anticipation and appreciation. The JGL Racing Young Gun would enjoy his return to the seat as he piloted the No. 24 Young Guns Toyota to a 23rd-place finish in the running of the Heads Up Georgia 250 at the Hampton, Georgia track.
"It was great to be back in the driver's seat," said LaJoie. "I needed to knock off the rust a little bit right from the beginning of the weekend and the guys on this JGL Racing team were patient and made the process great. Our No. 24 Toyota wasn't too bad out there today. We needed to turn a little better through the center of the corner and we continued to adjust on that throughout the race. In the end it was just great to be back behind the wheel in NASCAR."
LaJoie would start the 163-lap event from the 23rd position as a result of his qualifying efforts earlier in the day. The early stages of the race would see the 24-year old Young Gun slowly move forward in the field and join the top-10 by lap 18. As the race progressed, LaJoie would focus on logging valuable laps and taking care of his No. 24 Toyota. When the checkered flag flew, Corey would capture his second best career finish in NASCAR XFINITY Series competition.
"I really appreciate the opportunity that has been given to me with this JGL Racing organization," added Corey. "My time away from NASCAR made me realize how important racing is to me. And it makes me appreciate even more opportunities like this when they come along. I look forward to getting behind the wheel of this No. 24 Toyota again and improving on this performance."
Corey LaJoie will once again be behind the wheel of the No. 24 Young Guns Toyota this coming weekend as the circuit moves west to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
The third race of the season will be Saturday March 5th and can be seen LIVE on FOX Sports1 at 4:00 pm ET. The running of the Boyd Gaming 300 from Las Vegas Motor Speedway can also be heard on Performance Racing Network (PRN) and Sirius Channel 90.
