Dakoda Armstrong Unlucky in Las Vegas
LAS VEGAS, NV (March 7, 2016) - Dakoda Armstrong and his JGL Racing team entered Las Vegas with their sights set on kicking off NASCAR's West Coast Swing on a positive note. In the end Lady Luck wasn't on the side of Armstrong and his team as their No. 28 Winfield Toyota ran out of fuel under green flag racing in the second half of the event. When the checkered flag flew, Armstrong would steer his No. 28 Winfield Toyota to a frustrating 22nd-place finish in the running of the Boyd Gaming 300 at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
"That was just very disappointing out there today," said Armstrong. "Our Winfield Toyota just lacked a little rear grip as the race progressed but we had a top-15 car today for sure. We were just very unlucky with some fuel calculations and we ran out of fuel there in the second part of the race with that long green flag run. All of us are frustrated with the outcome as we were definitely better than our finish indicates."
Dakoda would start the 200-lap event from the 16th position as a result of his qualifying efforts earlier in the day. The New Castle, Indiana native would fire off in the early portion of the race before the lack of rear grip began to hamper the handling of the No. 28 Winfield Toyota. Together team and driver would hang around the top-15 and be positioned in the 13th spot before disaster struck on lap 111. Having run out of fuel, Armstrong would limp his machine down pit road to the attention of his crew. The loss of valuable track position and laps to the field would prohibit his opportunities in the late stages of the 300-mile race. When the checkered flag flew Dakoda would bring home the No. 28 Toyota to the 22nd-place finish.
"The bright side of this weekend was we had our No. 28 Winfield Toyota handling better than we did last week," added Dakoda. "I have all of the confidence in my JGL Racing crew and am sure we will all rebound from this nicely."
The 22nd-place finish would drop Armstrong to the 15th position in the overall NASCAR XFINITY Series drivers' standings - just six points out of the top ten.
Armstrong and his JGL Racing team next head to Phoenix International Raceway for the running of the Axalta 200. The fourth race of the season will be Saturday March 12th and can be seen LIVE on FOX at 2:00 pm ET. It can also be heard on Motor Racing Network (MRN) and Sirius Channel 90.
